A New Chapter in Our Medical Leadership
For more than 40 years, Richmond County Hospice has cared for patients and families in the community we call home. Behind that care are people who have dedicated their time, knowledge, and hearts to our mission. This October, I want to share an important change in our medical leadership and recognize two physicians who mean so much to our hospice.
After twelve years of dedicated service, Dr. Steven Strobel will retire as our Chief Medical Officer, effective November 1, 2026. Since stepping into this role on November 1, 2014, he has helped guide the quality and compassion of the care we provide. His medical expertise, support for our team, and commitment to our patients and families have made a lasting difference.
As CEO, I am deeply grateful for his leadership, partnership and the years he has given to Richmond County Hospice. Caring for people during some of life's most difficult moments takes both skill and compassion. Dr. Strobel has brought both to his work, and our organization is stronger because of him.
The good news is that he will remain with us as a PRN Hospice Physician, providing care as needed. We will still hear his familiar voice and see him around the office from time to time, and we are thankful to continue having him as part of our hospice family.
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Matthew Reinhardt will become our next Chief Medical Officer on November 1, 2026. His connection to hospice began nearly a decade ago when his longtime friend and colleague, Dr. Strobel, introduced him to this work.
Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Reinhardt earned his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and completed his residency at ChristianaCare in Delaware. He brings more than 25 years of experience in emergency medicine. His career has also included serving as Medical Director of FirstHealth's Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center and practicing at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg.
That experience brings a valuable perspective to hospice care, where listening, clear communication, and understanding each patient's needs are so important. I am confident that Dr. Reinhardt will continue the standard of care our families trust and support the team who delivers that care every day.
Outside of work, Dr. Reinhardt enjoys spending time with his wife, Clare, their four adult children, and their two dogs. He also enjoys exercising, traveling, spending time at the beach, and cheering on Clare as she competes in marathons.
Please join me in thanking Dr. Strobel for twelve years of dedicated leadership and welcoming Dr. Reinhardt to his new role. To our patients, families, volunteers, supporters, and healthcare partners: thank you for continuing to place your trust in us. It is a privilege to care for our neighbors, and that commitment will continue to guide us in the years ahead.
